The scorching summer is the peak season for construction projects. Facing the challenge of high temperatures, proper maintenance can keep your excavator in top condition. So, how can you ensure proper summer maintenance to keep your equipment running smoothly? Haituo Group has some tips for you!
1. Engine System: Preventing Overheating is Key
1. Coolant Inspection and Replacement: Ensure the coolant level is within the standard range. If insufficient, promptly add the same type of product and avoid mixing different types. It is recommended to replace the coolant every 500 hours and clean dust, cottonwood fluff, and other debris from the surface of the radiator to ensure efficient heat dissipation.
2. Engine Oil and Filter Maintenance: High temperatures accelerate engine oil oxidation. It is recommended to use high-viscosity engine oil specifically designed for summer use and shorten the replacement cycle. Replace the oil filter simultaneously to prevent debris from blocking the oil passages.
II. Hydraulic System: Beware of High Temperatures and Contamination
1. Hydraulic Oil Management: Regularly check the oil level and quality. If the oil is blackened or contains bubbles, replace it immediately. Use high-temperature-resistant hydraulic oil and ensure the oil tank's ventilation holes remain unobstructed.
2. Radiator Cleaning: Clean the hydraulic oil radiator daily to prevent debris from covering it and affecting heat dissipation. If the oil temperature alarm is triggered frequently, check whether the cooling fan is operating normally.
III. Electrical System: Waterproofing and Short-Circuit Prevention
1. Wiring Inspection: Focus on checking whether the battery terminals are oxidized (sandpaper can be used to polish them, followed by applying Vaseline) and whether the wiring harness connectors are loose. After rain, promptly remove any accumulated water from the control box and relay box.2. Air Conditioning Maintenance: Clean the air filter in the cab, check the refrigerant pressure, and ensure operators can work comfortably in high temperatures.
IV. Chassis and Structural Components: Preventing “Fatigue Damage”
1. Tracks and Idler Wheels: Sand, soil, and gravel can become lodged in the track plates, so they must be cleaned daily after operation and the track tension adjusted. Apply high-temperature grease to the idler wheels and track rollers to reduce wear.
2. Prevention of steel structure cracks: Metal expansion and contraction are exacerbated in high temperatures. Regularly inspect welded areas such as the boom and bucket arm for cracks and perform repairs promptly.
5. Daily Operation Recommendations
1. Avoid continuous operation during high-temperature periods: Avoid prolonged construction during midday (11:00–15:00). Shut down the machine for 10 minutes every 2 hours to reduce equipment load.
2. Storage precautions when idle: Park in a cool, dry location and cover exposed parts such as the exhaust pipe to prevent water ingress.
“Three parts repair, seven parts maintenance”—proper maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of your excavator. During this busy construction season full of opportunities, keep your excavator in top condition to tackle any challenge!
